Trap Doors

 

in a theater, openings in the floor of a stage, formed by replacing one or several floorboards with a frame of the same dimensions. Some trap doors designed for various theatrical effects, such as sudden disappearances and appearances of persons and objects, are equipped with platforms that can be raised and lowered.
