A type of cloud-height indicator which uses a searchlight to project vertically a narrow beam of light onto a cloud base. Also known as ceiling projector.

ceiling light
A device to determine the height of clouds at night. It consists of a powerful projection lamp (searchlight) and a ceilometer to measure the angle of elevation subtended by the lamp beam. During the day, a ceilometer is used for this purpose.
