experimental method

experimental method

the scientific method used to test an EXPERIMENTAL HYPOTHESIS by comparing an EXPERIMENTAL GROUP which has been subjected to an INDEPENDENT VARIABLE, with a CONTROL GROUP which has not. This is the method of choice in PSYCHOLOGY, but sociology has developed diverse methodologies to cope with less controllable data. See RESEARCH METHODS, QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH TECHNIQUES, COMPARATIVE METHOD, CAUSAL MODELLING.
