macrochip

A multicore CPU chip proposed by Sun that uses optical communications between its cores. Announced in 2008 and funded by DARPA as part of its Ultraperformance Nanophotonic Intrachip Communications (UNIC) project, an optical interconnect that transfers trillions of bits per second is expected by 2013.
