offline storage

offline storage

Storage media that are not connected to the computer or network. Optical discs, external hard drives and USB drives that have been removed or disconnected are examples of offline storage. Decades ago, an offline storage room was part of the datacenter, where magnetic tape reels and disk packs were housed. Contrast with online storage. See cloud storage and data library.
