A device that employs a surface acoustic wave, a thickness-shear-mode resonance (a resonant oscillation of a thin plate of material), or other type of acoustic wave to measure the physical properties of a thin film or liquid layer or, in combination with chemically sensitive thin films, to detect the presence and concentration of chemical analytes.
