Urodilatin is still in clinical development, ANP and another member of
the natriuretic peptide hormone family, BNP, are clinically available
for the treatment of acute congestive heart failure. The study concluded that elevated NT-proBNP
concentration in the presence of a low GFR strongly predicts 60-day
mortality in patients with acute congestive heart failure (CHF), better
than either individual parameter alone; 60-day survival was similar in
patients with either a low GFR or a high NT-proBNP. Expenses related to the development of the Company's drug
candidates for the treatment of acute congestive heart failure and
research for the treatment of fungal infections were the primary reasons
for the increased spending in 2004. |
