sketch, a rapidly executed kind of pictorial note-taking. The sketch is not usually intended as an autonomous work of art, although many have been considered masterpieces in their own right. Used extensively in the planning of large, complex projects, the sketch allows the artist to visualize quickly the bend of a knee or the sweep of an arm without having to experiment directly on the work itself. See cartoon cartoon [Ital., cartone=paper], either of two types of drawings: in the fine arts, a preliminary sketch for a more complete work; in journalism, a humorous or satirical drawing. ..... Personally, I have no objection to celluloid puking, provided it is
done tastefully and is used primarily to adumbrate the lofty themes of
the film. They do,
however, adumbrate a generally more sophisticated view of the emerging
imagined community than the prints Steele describes. Interweaving the narrative with a young mother
searching for meaning and an entomologist whose rationalist diligence
leads to the discovery of a new species of moth, Mettler adumbrates an
underlying theme in all of his work: the search, as he puts it, for a
"balance between intellect and intuition, order and chaos, action
and perception. |
