Since October 2005, the Air Mobility Warfare Center has partnered in an effort to revolutionize the way the Air Force does its airlift air drops in the expeditionary environment and around the globe with the Joint Precision Air Drop System, or JPADS, initiative.
``It expanded the envelope of C-17 air drop capabilities, and points the way toward a safe extraction technique for an affordable and responsive space lift capability.
For example, commanders could air drop members of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division as part of an early entry force while concurrently moving a Marine expeditionary brigade ashore.
