Related to allopathist: allopathic
a term introduced by the German physician S. Hahnemann to designate a trend in medicine—the use of medicines producing symptoms opposite to the symptoms of the given disease—which he contrasted to homeopathy. Such an opposition is groundless for modern medicine, and the use of the term is incompetent, since in treating patients the purpose is to eliminate the pathologic process, not to manifest it.
