anamorphoscope [‚an·ə′mȯr·fə‚skōp]
(optics)
An optical instrument, usually consisting of a cylindrical lens or mirror, that restores an image distorted by anamorphosis to its normal proportions.

It contains 24 examples of anamorphic art (from an antique set in the Gold Collection at the Museum of the City of New York) and a sample sheet of mylar that can be rolled into an anamorphoscope (a reflective cylinder--a very popular children's toy in the nineteenth century) for the viewing of this mathematical artistic oddity.
The technology, which he he called Anamorphoscope, was a huge sensation when it debuted in a travelogue titled ``This is Cinerama'' around 1950.
