anastomosis [ə‚nas·tə′mō·səs] (medicine) A surgical communication made between blood vessels, for example, between the portal vein and the inferior vena cava. An opening created by surgery, trauma, or disease between two or more normally separate spaces or organs. (science and technology) The union or intercommunication of parts or branches, such as blood vessels, streams, or leaf veins. Also known as inosculation. Approximately 7 mm of involved facial nerve was
resected, and a primary anastomosis was performed. His surgery involved a medium sternotomy, left internal mammary
artery (LIMA) harvesting with anastomosis of the LIMA sequentially to
LAD and LADD, His cardiac anaesthetic included midazolam, fentanyl,
pancuronium and propofol and his total cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time
was 55 minutes with minimal blood loss. The medial edges of the sternohyoid muscles were sutured to
the fascia of the dorsolateral-lateral aspect of the trachea to decrease
the tension on the skin to mucosa anastomosis and thereby decrease the
tendency for dehiscence. |
