| The ankle has two components: the regular ankle joint that moves up and down, and the subtalar (ST) joint beneath it that moves in and out. Similar to the knee joint, where effusion appears to cause inhibition of the quadriceps femoris muscle group, decreased H-reflex excitability of muscles around the ankle joint has been reported in the presence of ankle effusion. While Erstad's ankle been diagnosed with everything from bone spurs to a bone bruise and even ligament and tendon damage, Erstad said the real trouble is coming from an irritated ankle joint. |
