Inovelon(R) is a structurally novel compound that acts as a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant originally discovered and developed by Novartis Pharma AG.
The federal Medicare program is requiring that all the new Part D prescription plans cover "'all or substantially all' of the drugs in the antidepressant, antipsychotic, anticonvulsant, anticancer, immunosuppressant and HIV/AIDS categories.
Although most of the drugs had no effect or were toxic to the worms, Kornfeld's team found that ethosuximide, an anticonvulsant drug, increased the worms' life span by 17 percent.
