Tokyo, Japan, June 7, 2006 - (JCN) - Otsuka Pharmaceutical announced on June 6 that it will begin shipping Abilify, its proprietary antipsychotic agent, in Japan on June 8. Atypical antipsychotic agents have shown promise because of their apparent lack of EPS; however, some can present other problems for the elderly patient. For example, while a brief, low-dose course of an antipsychotic agent may help to manage symptoms of non-cognitive origin (delusions, hallucinations), in residents with cognitive impairments, such as dementia, the very same drugs can worsen symptoms. |
