1949: "Googie" coffee shop architecture, John Lautner (later Armet Davis architects), Hollywood
The trademark coffee-shop architecture - dramatic roof line, big windows, chrome, and plastic and leatherette booths - started when the architectural firm Armet and Davis designed a Los Angeles coffee shop called Googie's.
It was designed by Armet & Davis, whose works include hundreds of other coffee shops, including Norm's and Pann's.
