art brut


(French; “raw art”)

Art produced by people outside the established art world, particularly crude, inexperienced, or obscene works created by the untrained or the mentally ill. The term was coined by Jean Dubuffet, who regarded such works as the purest form of expression. See also naive art.

ART BRUT: Taking their name from the French-defined notion of "outsider" art, Art Brut is led by mustachioed frontman Eddie Argos, whose why-sing-when-talking-is-so much-less-strenuous vocals and overall blase persona probably wouldn't work if the group's songs weren't so pluperfectly smart/stupid.
