Liver (Atlantic menhaden) and spleen (other fish species) tissues were sampled aseptically, homogenized in Butterfield's phosphate-buffered saline and plated on Middlebrook 7H10 agar (Difco, Detroit, MI, USA) supplemented with Bacto Middlebrook oleic acid, albumin, dextrose, catalase (Difco).
