In his book, Taha Husayn Wa Athar al-Thaqafa al-Faransiyya Fi Adabih (The Influence of French Culture on his Writing), Father Kamal Qulta claimed that Husayn was influenced by The Confessions of Jean Jacque Rousseau when he wrote his menoir.
In part because it was so revealing - to this reviewer, at any rate - and in pan because it was so well done, Athar Hussain's article on Pakistani nationalism stood out as one of the best in the collection.
