A high-speed memory bank used in mainframes and supercomputers. It is not directly addressable by the CPU; rather, it functions like a disk. Data are transferred from auxiliary memory to main memory over a high-bandwidth channel. See auxiliary storage.

Sony Electronics has announced that the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has approved a new, tape media Auxiliary Memory (AM) content and interface standard.
Cache is an auxiliary memory device that temporarily stores only the 'most recently used data and, when required, delivers it to the CPU very quickly.
The product's features include CPU supervision, clock management, real-time support, auxiliary memory and serial interface.
