Once activated, the backup device performs a complete restoration of only selected data from the most recent backup of the computer's hard drive. No changes are required to the current backup software environment, backup performance is improved compared to tape-based backup, and the D2D backup device often provides some level of rapid file restore or recovery compared to tape. A more expensive strategy than vaulting involves investing in redundant computer hardware--so if one component fails, a backup device kicks in to keep the system running. |
