Ridges whose crests are parallel to the shore and which are usually made up of water-worn gravel put down by currents in shallow water at some distance from the shore.

The immediate question that comes to mind is: Didn't the barrier bar his passage so that he couldn't have fallen in the ditch, light or no light?
The Guardian features a solid, heavy-duty curtain with barrier bars to help protect personnel and prevent accidental entry into the production area.
Also, due to customer requests, GRI has redesigned its window barrier bar, making it easier to install.
