The bentonite slurry forms a thin (typically [less than or equal to] 3 mm) filter cake of low hydraulic conductivity (<10-8 cm/s) on both sides of the trench.
Slurry trench (barrier) backfill--Curtain barriers are created by excavating a notch in the earth, supporting it with a bentonite slurry and then backfilling it with the bentonite enriched soil material.
