The study of natural communities and of interactions among the members of these communities.

Biocenology 

a science that studies plant and animal communities as a whole—that is, biocenoses and their structure, development, distribution in space and time, and origin. The study of communities of organisms in their interaction with inanimate nature is the object of biogeocenology.
