Bode 

a river in the German Democratic Republic; left tributary of the Saale (Elbe basin). Length, 160 km; basin area, 3,300 sq km. Rises in two streams on the eastern slopes of the Hartz, flowing in a picturesque narrow valley. Reservoirs and hydroelectric power plants are located in its upper reaches. The cities of Thale, Oschersleben, and Strasfurt are located on the river.
