A fan used to increase either the total pressure or the volume of flow.

booster fan
An auxiliary fan which increases the air pressure in a system; used to provide additional capability to handle peak exhaust (or supply) loads in an air-conditioned space such as a theater lobby; also used to supply air to furnaces.
