(mining engineering)
A temporary board or cloth partition in any mine passage to confine the air and force it into the working places. Also spelled brattish; brettice; brettis.

brattice, bretesse, bretĂȘche
In medieval fortifications, a tower or bay of timber construction. (See illustration p. 136.)
