1. 
a. the result of the division of one number or quantity by another
b. the integral part of the result of division
2. a ratio of two numbers or quantities to be divided
quotient - The number obtained by dividing one number (the "numerator") by another (the "denominator"). If both numbers are rational then the result will also be rational.
