HOUSTON: Valero Energy was restarting the 75,000 barrel per day (bpd) gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) at its 335,000 bpd Port Arthur, Texas, refinery, said sources familiar with plant operations.
Motiva had blocked out from March to late June of this year for the overhaul on VPS-4 and associated units after completion of a planned overhaul of the refinery's 92,000 bpd gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU), which finished in late March.

Domestically or internationally advanced technologies have been adopted for its principal units: both the catalytic cracking unit and atmospheric and vacuum distillation unit employ domestic techniques with internationally advanced standards; most advanced international techniques have been introduced for the residue hydrotreating unit, the hydrocracking unit and the continuous reforming unit; the oil refining process adopts "residue hydrotreating + delayed coking + catalytic cracking" scheme.
The timing of the CDU overhaul is also contingent on successful completion of an overhaul of the refinery's 92,000 bpd gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU).
The contract includes Crude Distillation Unit, Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit, Diesel Hydro-treating Unit, Continuous Catalyst Regeneration Unit, Alkylation Unit, Polypropylene Unit etc, Utilities and Offsites including Captive Power with other enabling infrastructure facilities.
In mid-1998 NIOC offered four projects for the refinery to be built and funded by foreign companies on buy-back basis, so that the plant's capacity is raised to 600,000 b/d: modernising the central fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) built by Foster Wheeler in 1950 and raising its capacity from 40,000 to 60,000 b/d; building a 70,000 b/d vacuum distillation unit (VDU); building a 25,000 b/d visbreaker; and building four desalting units with a total capacity of 525,000 b/d.
Major process units include a fluid coking unit, a fluid catalytic cracking unit, a hydrocracking unit with a hydrogen plant, a continuous catalytic reformer, an alkylation unit, and several hydrotreating units.
Phillips 66 reported it was beginning maintenance work on the electrostatic precipitator (ESP) on the gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) at its 146,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) Borger, Texas refinery, according to a filing with the state pollution regulator.
The facilities will comprise a crude distillation unit, a residue fluid catalytic cracking unit, a diesel hydro-treating unit, a continuous catalyst regeneration unit, an alkylation unit and a polypropylene unit.
