(civil engineering)
A basin at the point where a street gutter empties into a sewer, built to catch matter that would not easily pass through the sewer.
A well or reservoir into which surface water may drain off.

The project includes a flood-protection system of 13 catch basins along Cantara Street north of the park.
Multiple catch basins collect runoff and pipe it to the StormGate and then to the StormFilter.
The cycle seems to rev up in the spring, as catch basin water dries up and what is left becomes organically rich and a perfect mosquito-breeding place.
