It adjoins the city of Urbana 1 City (1990 pop. 36,344), seat of Champaign co., E central Ill., adjoining Champaign ; inc. 1833. With Champaign, its twin city, Urbana is a trade, medical, and educational center in a fertile farm area.

 and is a commercial and industrial center in a fertile farm area. The Univ. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Parkland College are there. The city's economic mainstays are agriculture and the university. Founded in 1855 with the arrival of the Illinois Central RR, Champaign was first called West Urbana.
