Once known as the Playground of Kings, with more than 300 chateaus situated along the 600-mile Loire River, the Loire Valley spans the central region of France and produces some of the country's finest wines. Canopies of poplars, willows, maples and elms--some planted in precision-like rows--line the river banks, which give way to amber-golden hillsides, sunflower fields, vineyards, cow pastures and 200-year-old chateaus. The castle was built in 1928 and owned by Monsieur Dumas, a Frenchman from Falaise who wanted to replicate the chateaus of his native Normandy. |
