Chink

(literary form of the Kazakh and Turkmen word shïn), a precipice or scarp at the edge of a plateau or mesa. The term, which is widespread in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, is most often used for the precipices of the Ustiurt Plateau. Chinks are 300–350 m high. They form as a result of erosion, denudation, or tectonic processes.
