It has been proposed that multiple chromosomal losses, including that of chromosome 21, may result in progression of oncocytoma to chromophobe carcinoma.
Observation of these unusual tumors is important because it suggests a spectrum between oncocytoma and chromophobe carcinoma.
Mostly sarcomatoid carcinomas are found in association with conventional (clear cell) renal carcinoma, but there are occasional descriptions of sarcomatoid transformation of chromophobe carcinoma,[8,9] collecting duct carcinoma,[10] and papillary carcinoma.
