In this case, a cleaning woman famous for gossiping and fairly poor work is discovered by Hamish outside the home of one of her clients with her head bashed in, apparently hit with her own cleaning pail. An editor friend who grew up in New York as the son of a cleaning woman glimpsed a larger world when he went to work with her and saw how her clients lived. His father had died when he was 7, and Ruiz helped support the family, picking fruit in orchards while his mother worked as a cleaning woman. |
