closed loop [¦klōzd ′lüp] (computer science) A loop whose execution continues indefinitely in the absence of any external intervention. (control systems) A family of automatic control units linked together with a process to form an endless chain; the effects of control action are constantly measured so that if the controlled quantity departs from the norm, the control units act to bring it back.
