A component of magnetic compass deviation, varying with the cosine function of twice the compass heading, resulting from induced magnetism in all unsymmetrical arrangements of the craft's horizontal soft iron.

coefficient E

A quadrantal deviation in a magnetic compass of negligible effect. Coefficient E = ¼{(Deviation on North + Deviation on South) − (Deviation on East + Deviation on West)}.
