When data travels along a copper cable it's compressed to fit into the cable, and any data that doesn't fit gets lost during the process.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 46, were questioned in connection with the theft last month during which lengths of copper cable was cut and stolen from tracks near Pelaw, South Tyneside, causing severe disruption to Metro and mainline rail services.
He had been removing copper cable from the roof, about 20-30ft high, when the cable dropped and pulled him to his death.
