COSE

Common Open Software Environment. An initiative by Hewlett-Packard, Sun, IBM, Novell, Univel and SCO to move toward consistency and interoperability between Unix suppliers.

COSE

(Common Open Software Environment) Pronounced "cozy." An alliance of major Unix vendors dedicated to standardizing open systems. In 1993, its first specification was the CDE (Common Desktop Environment), a user interface based on Motif. COSE has since disbanded, and CDE is now governed by X/Open.
