social navigation

The crowdsourcing of events such as accidents and traffic jams in real time from ordinary drivers enhances navigational directions. The more users take part, the more valuable the results. Founded in 2008, Israeli firm Waze Mobile created an app that makes event submission easy, and the company was acquired by Google in 2013. The integration of Waze augments Google's navigation system with up-to-date information. See crowdsourcing and GPS.
