There are limits to how much lossless data compression can compress and increase the payload of a TCP/IP data packet. Aurora is the first protocol to provide a transparent interface to upper layers of proprietary or industry standard protocols, such as Ethernet or TCP/IP, allowing any data packet to be encapsulated and sent between chips, boards and boxes. 7,058,020 covers a technique for time-stamping a data packet, which permits the measurement of network characteristics - such as one-way and round-trip latency and jitter - to within one microsecond, and eliminates the uncertainties typically associated with software processing and system load. |
