Every two weeks, he visits the Clubhouse, a day centre set up by the mental health consumers' union, where he conducts general health checks and has helped set up some therapeutic and social activities. Building work has taken place in phases and the Sangam now includes a school for around 400 disabled and able-bodied children; a medical centre with a team of physiotherapists; a computer centre where students can study for degrees; training centres for skills such as tailoring and crafts; a day centre for children with learning difficulties; a calliper workshop; residential care for children with physical disabilities; and a range of outreach projects to local villages. At Vuotalo, the parti is based on an 80m diameter circle which relates the major elements of the surroundings, the Vuosaari High School to the east; south, a big shopping centre which bridges over the motorway, and to the north housing and an as yet unbuilt elderly persons' day centre. |
