The type of file format that the current data will be saved to if no other file type is selected. For example, in a graphics program, the default file could be a JPEG or a BMP. In Microsoft Word, the default file type is Word's native DOC file.

All disk imaging products support the Windows file systems -- File Allocation Table (FAT) 16, FAT 32, and NT File System (NTFS)--and some provided limited support for Linux file systems Ext2, Ext3 and Linux Swap, but today only Acronis supports ReiserFS, the default file system used by SuSE Linux.
Incidentally, to set a default folder, click on Tools, Options, General, and in the box labeled Default File Location, type in the name of the folder (subdirectory) you want Excel to default to (see screen shot below).
ODF is the default file format for users of the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop and the Novell Edition of OpenOffice, and we are a strong supporter of ODF.
