Demobilization 

the transfer of armed forces and entire sectors of the national economy from wartime to peacetime status. Demobilization provides at the end of a war for the reduction of the armed forces to regular peacetime forces by disbanding troop units, headquarters, installations, and institutions formed during wartime, the discharge of surplus personnel into the reserve, and the return to the national economy of property confiscated during mobilization.

September 16, 2009 (BRUSSELS) -- European Union foreign ministers said concerned by southern Sudan tribal violence and the absence of ceasefire in the western Sudan province of Darfur In a statement released following a meeting held in Brussels on September 14 the EU 27 foreign ministers urged the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) to complete the disarmament process, as well as demobilisation and the reintegration of veterans.
He later volunteered for the Territorial Green Howards, spending hours guarding Skinningrove beach before his demobilisation in 1948.
After his demobilisation at the end of the war, he returned to Meltham to set up a painting and decorating shop.
