demurrer |
Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Wikipedia | 0.01 sec. |
demurrerIn law, a plea in response to an allegation that admits its truth but also asserts that it is not sufficient as a cause of action. In the U.S., demurrers are no longer used in federal procedure (having been replaced by motions to dismiss or motions for more definite statement) but are still used in some states. A general demurrer challenges the sufficiency of the substance of an allegation, whereas a special demurrer challenges the structure or form of an allegation. |

Certainly, Guardini's pre-Vatican II proclivities should be considered side-by-side with Maritain's post-Conciliar demurrals regarding "demythicizing" practices affecting "the Church, Bride and mystical body. Three children--an English boy and girl and an African boy, Raphah (whose deep spirituality is signaled by lines like "There was peace in his voice") engage in a breakneck adventure fighting smugglers and supernatural creatures to try to keep an evil vicar, Obadiah Demurral, from using a magical artifact called the Keruvim to become like God. Demurral has stolen, cheated, and lied in his efforts to increase his wealth and status at the expense of others. |
