In the Middle Ages ordinary soldiers were often assigned to shipboard duty; not until the naval wars of the 17th century was the distinct role of marines rediscovered almost simultaneously by the British and the Dutch, who raised the first two modern marine corps, the Royal Marine (1664) and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Corps Mariniers (1665). On October 24, 2003, deer hunters found the body of a woman lying face down in a wooded area off Devil Dog Road about 1 mile south of Interstate 40 and 6 miles west of Williams, Arizona. The chow included dog bone-shaped sandwiches and devil dog cookies that made Downey's nose twitch, just like it does in the film when he mutates into a sheep dog. Behind a barbed-wired, chain-link fence, guarded by devil dogs posted like a pair of Rottweilers, the communications system is shrouded in secrecy. |
