diatropism [dī′a·trə‚piz·əm]
(botany)
Growth orientation of certain plant organs that is transverse to the line of action of a stimulus.

Diatropism 

movements of plant organs during which they occupy a position perpendicular to the direction of the external forces acting on them. Diatropism is primarily typical of lateral plant organs with a dorsi-ventral structure, particularly of leaves that occupy a position on the main stem that is mostly perpendicular to the force of gravity operating on them or to the direction of light falling on them.
