Second estrus was defined as the day on which a smear indicating estrus fell within a run of smears clearly showing the correct cyclic sequence of proestrus, estrus, metestrus, and diestrus. Animals that had repeated cycles of proestrus, estrus, and diestrus I and II, in that order, were called "regular cyclers. Vaginal smear data showed that Aroclor 1221 rats had fewer estrus and proestrus days than diestrus days relative to vehicle animals, suggesting some qualitative difference in estrous cyclicity. |
