digital CD audio

Also found in: Wikipedia 0.04 sec.

Refers to a digital connection between the CD-ROM drive and the sound card. USB speakers require this digital connection because they obtain the audio through the USB channel, which is digital. In Windows 2000 and XP, to determine if digital CD audio has been enabled, right click My Computer and select Properties. Select the Hardware tab and then Device Manager. Expand the DVD/CD-ROM line to view the actual CD-ROM drive. Right click on the name of the CD-ROM drive and select Properties. The "Enable digital CD audio for the CD-ROM device" checkbox is now visible.
