fabA manufacturing plant that makes semiconductor devices. Many chips are created by "fabless" companies that take their tested designs to a fab for production. Examples of fabs are Intel, Samsung, Renesas (Hitachi-Mitsubishi merger), Texas Instruments, Toshiba, Infineon, STMicroelectronics, NEC, Freescale and Philips.
